I want this, not because it's a good car or anything, but strictly for the purpose of hacking off the mufflers and confusing the hell out of everyone who doesn't know that the third generation SHO existed, and had a V8. (So everyone except people on here)
Seriously these things sound way too good for a Taurus

Same with the W8 Passat

a 3rd gen SHO is something I did not know existed. This is coming from somebody that grew up with a wagon from the previous generation.

I disagree. With that gen, the SHO 'finally' had a V8 in it. All the Rustang Rednecks refused to believe the original SHO had a V6 from a piano company. No way a V6 can make that much power.
Count the spark plugs, gentlemen. You'll discover two of them have gone missing.

They weren't exactly noteworthy, or any good, and they only came in automatic. The only draw is the noise

Oh god yes

I think the second gens were faster than the third gens too...slightly less power, but lighter

Yep. And still had a stick didn't it?

Yeah, as far as decent car goes, the gen 2 is the way to go. I just like these ones for trolling purposes

put RX-7 badges on the rear for extra wuts

Hnnnngggg

I'd almost wanna ditch the skirts, spoiler, SHO badging, and put it on some old steelies with three hubcaps

Come to think of it, the third gen SHO was worse in every way except cylinder count

I love the 94-95 SHO's in blue and white

I found one of these in my front yard one snowy morning.

I beg your pardon? I owned a '97. In silver. And I quite liked it.

you got my attention and so did this http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/496538…

Oh cool! Did it have cam issues? I can't remember the big problem they're supposed to have in the top end but I think it was camshaft related

I know that SHO engines in a longitudinal position always work well, from lotus Esprits to fox bodies.

My friend had one with the welded cams, it was FWD but the V8 rumble was a pass for me.

With that car, I think you could break the 28+/- hour record from Cali to New York, easy. If, of course, it doesn't break down. But, it would be glorious!

I had heard that. When I sold it with around 98K on it, there were no issues with the engine. I'd run Mobil 1 from the beginning. It was the last car I owned. The only thing that went wrong was the trunk CD changer, and that was JBL's fault, not Ford's. Had a Honda, two Toyotas, and a diesel Mercedes, and the SHO was as or more reliable than all of them.

Ugh, these things always pique my interest. I'd much rather have a 2nd Gen SHO, but the high-revving V8 in the 3rd Gen is just so insanely unexpected.

Holy hell, that sounds incredible.

That's really impressive, my dad is on his second Taurus and it will probably be his last because of reliability issues, so that's pretty cool to hear

Yeah I was a bit floored when I first learned about it. "wait...a Taurus, with a sub 4L V8, and a 7500rpm redline??"
![]() 04/06/2015 at 22:48 |

Yeah, its quite the interesting/peculiar car. I think there was an Oppo that owned one, not sure though.
EDIT: Remembered, it was Steve In Manhattan. It appears he already commented too.

I just watched the vid, and it sounds like a stock car.
Further research shows that they almost made mod motor power at 230ish HP.
![]() 04/06/2015 at 23:11 |
|
Yeah, the ones with no mufflers or glass packs took the whole video to get to the revs. They still sound good with mufflers though. Yeah, it's a shame Ford didn't do more with that engine

If I had the time and money I would convert one of these to RWD manual. Actually, cover to think of it I would do that with a lot of 90's FWD stuff.
